Published :)

I am sooo....excited that one of my cards was chosen to be published in the September issue of CardMaker magazine.  I haven't been published very many times, but I have a feeling that no matter how many times it happens, you always get the wonderful feeling that I am feeling right now.  The UPS man just dropped off a big envelope that contained the published card and 2 issues of CardMaker magazine.

I really needed this about right now.  It has been a rough couple of weeks and hopefully things will start to look up again.

Apple a Day

Whew...I don't know what happened, but I lost my template on my blog and I thought, I lost everything.  It was quite a nightmare and now I am left with this very simple blog design thanks to Blogger!  I can create, but I am not as compute literate that I wished I was.  Someday, I will figure it all out.

On to my card for Wednesday....

I used the Designed2Delight, "Apple a Day" digital image.  I am so loving this basket overflowing with apples.   I couldn't decide what color I wanted my apple to be, sooooo...why not red, yellow and green.  Looking at this images makes me crave a nice crisp, juicy apple.  I colored the image with my Copics and used a circle die cut the cut it out and make a scalloped layer.  There is the white card base, then a brown layer and on top of that an embossed green layer.  Then, I used strips of DP (green squiggly is from Pebbles Treehouse and the red stripe is from the Amber Autumn Paper Pack by DCWV) and brown card stock to make my border design.  The loopy punch is from Fiskars and the zig zag punch is from Martha Stewart and I don't remember the exact names of the punches.  I added some yellow brads to the red strip.  I am trying to use up some of those little embellishments that are just sitting around.  I don't know about you, but I have way too many brads that are being neglected!!  As a final touch, I added a red crocheted flower (my own creation) and a yellow felt flower and button.  I found the felt flowers and button at my local sewing store by the buttons.  They are Favorite Findings by Blumenthal Lansing Co.  I love to browse the sewing dept looking for little embellishments for my cards.

Published!

The magazine, Scrapstreet chose one of my cards pictured below to publish in their May issue.  Here is a link to ScrapStreet and another for the specific card.  It is in the section called, Pocket Full of Posies, featuring homemade flowers for your cards and layouts.  The white crocheted flowers was created by me.  Did you know if you crochet your flowers with white thread/yarn that you can dye them with ink any color you wish?

Happy New Year!

Wow...I can't believe the holidays are over and we are quickly moving into 2010. Hopefully my postings will be a little more frequent as I get myself organized this year. ORGANIZED is my main goal. No more late cards! What is my excuse anyway since I love making cards??  I need to learn to be a little more easy going and not such a perfectionist when making a card for someone. Are you like that? I want the card to be just right and then I never get it done on time and there we go again...a late or never sent card.

I will leave you with this card I made for a publication call, but I guess it wasn't what they were looking for.  Sending you sunshine in the new year.  I hope all your hopes, dreams and wishes come true!

EDIT:  Never give up on a card.  This just goes to show that just because one publication call didn't choose this card, another did.

TESC86 Give Thanks

I took the plunge and decided to try Taylored Expression's Sketch Challenge #86. I always have great intentions of doing some of the blog challenges, but then my ideas don't always go along with the sketch or color challenge. I end of going my own way and doing my own thing. But if nothing else, I did get some great inspiration. Today, I did it!!

I started with some Old Olive cardstock and a piece of K & Company patterned paper is a great fall colored stripe. The tree stamp is a great little stamp by Studio G...found in the $1 bin at Michael's. Can't beat a great stamp for only a buck!! I used my stampin' spots to add all the color randomly on the stamp, hoping for the best and I love the way it turned out. I added some sparkle to the leave with my Stardust gel pen. I did create the sentiment on my computer and cut everything out with my rectangle Spellbinder's die cuts. A strip of Old Olive cardstock scalloped and embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder by Provo Craft. 3 little antique brass brads were the finishing touch.
